Scroll Stitch
Scroll Stitch is a decorative outline stitch from the family of Knots. This hand embroidery technique forms a wavy knotted line, similar to Coral Stitch. The difference between these two stitches is that the knot is made with a different technique, so the visual appeal is slightly different. Scroll Stitch creates a slightly curved line between the knots, while the line of Coral Stitch is straight.
Other names of the stitch
A Scroll Stitch is also called a Single-Knotted Line stitch.
Applications of the Scroll Stitch
The Scroll Stitch technique can be applied to straight and curved lines. It is excellent for outlines, lettering, simple borders, and botanical embroidery. Closely embroidered rows of Scroll Stitch will form a textural filling.

Step-by-step hand embroidery tutorial
Instructions
1. Mark the line for your stitches. It can be straight or curved. Take the needle to the surface on the left mark and pull the thread to the surface.
2. Form a loop from the working thread, keeping it uppermost, and take your needle down inside the loop, slightly above the marked line.
3. Pull the thread to the back, but leave a smaller loop open. Take the needle to the surface just below the entrance point of the stitch, inside the loop.
4. Pull the working thread from the back of the fabric to tighten the loop.
5. Pull the needle inside the knot, pull the thread, and tighten the knot.
6. Make one more stitch using the same technique.
7. When embroidery is finished, secure the thread on the back side.
