I embroider and sew them, make decorations from acorns and pinecones, make little mushrooms from cork, crochet snowflakes, or make origami decor. This year, I plan on making some himmeli ornaments from natural straw.
If you are unfamiliar with this technique, it’s a traditional Lithuanian (and Scandinavian) art in which the pieces of straw are assembled to create geometrical shapes. These airy sculptures are believed to protect homes from evil spirits and guard the family.
Even if I try a new craft or method for decor-making each year, one way to make ornaments repeats. I embroider and sew Christmas ornaments from felt fabric.
If you would like to embroider your ornaments, too, check out these patterns on Etsy:

If you are into hand embroidery but do not like sewing ornaments, try framing your festive embroidery in small or mini hoops. They work great as tree decor and make cute gift tags.
