Granitos Stitch
Embroider Granitos Stitch
Granitos Stitch is a detached raised stitch from the Straight Stitch family. This tiny isolated stitch is simple to make, and the results are stunning—the straightforward stitch creates a padded, plump oval shape that stands out with its structure.
Usually, 7-11 straight stitches are made to create a Granito. The number of stitches you will need depends on the thread you choose and how raised the stitch has to be.
Other names of the stitch
In Spanish, granito means “little grain,” and it’s most likely where its name comes from. Sometimes, the Granitos Stitch is called the Granito or Roundel.
Applications of the Granitos Stitch
Traditionally, the Granitos Stitch was used in Madeiran embroidery. White thread was used on white fabric to create a texture. In modern surface embroidery, the Granito is used as a filling stitch, a decorative detached stitch, or as part of more complex stitches.
This technique can be used in botanical embroidery, for example, to create flower petals, leaves, berries, and other natural elements.

Instructions
1. Start with one Straight Stitch.
2. Take the needle up at the same starting point and make one more Straight stitch to the exact second hole.
3. You might want to use a big blunt needle to guide the stitches, so they lay nicely. First, cover the sides and then – add the final stitches in the center.
4. Add as many Straight stitches as you wish until you are happy with how raised your stitch is.
