Open back stitch

Open backstitch

An open backstitch is a variation of the backstitch. This stitch is also called Half backstitch. Visually, the open backstitch and the running stitch look the same from the front side of the embroidery. Still, you will see the difference on the backside of the fabric.

Applications of Open backstitch

This simple embroidery stitch is an excellent stitch for sewing. It offers a look of a running stitch but the strength of the backstitch. It is easy to embroider straight lines and curves with this stitch. You can use this stitch for outlines, lettering or borders too.
