Double Threaded Running Stitch
A Double-threaded running stitch is a decorative variation of the Running stitch. This hand embroidery stitch combines the foundation stitch (running stitch) and threading.
Applications Of The Double Threaded Running Stitch
This simple yet decorative stitch is excellent for border designs, outlines, and lettering.
- After embroidering the running stitch, lace the second thread through the running stitches without entering the fabric or crossing the running stitch. This lacing is made two times to form a chain-like pattern.
- You can embroider the threaded running stitch in a single color and create a single-color chain or choose two contrasting colors to create exciting patterns.
- Play with colors and see what beautiful color combinations you can create with this simple stitch!
- Use a blunt needle, like a tapestry needle (or the back of the needle), for threading. Be careful not to snag the running stitches or the fabric under and not to hurt your fingers if you use the eye of a regular embroidery needle.
How To Embroider This Stitch
- First, embroider a simple running stitch.
- Then – make threading: Come up with the needle at the end of the last stitch. Pass the needle under the running stitch from the top downwards. Pass the needle under the second running stitch from down upwards. Continue threading the stitches until all the stitches are threaded.
- Now make the same lacing backward. Only change the direction of the lacing stitches.
