Embroidery Stitches for Edging

Hand embroidery edging stitches are worked along the perimeter of the fabric. These stitches have two purposes. First of all, stitches along the trims define the textile’s edge, securing it and preventing the fabric from fraying. At the same time, these stitches embellish the hem, adding visual interest and enhancing the overall look of the garment or home textile.

Hand embroidery stitches for edge finishing range from simple techniques like Cross Stitch or Buttonhole Stitch to more elaborate variations of the Blanket Stitch, such as Bullion Picot Buttonhole Edging.
